ABOUT ME

I am a historian-in-the-making and a lifelong student of languages.

I’m Lynn Chenel. I am a graduate student at New York University, doing Near Eastern Studies with an advanced language concentration in Modern Greek.

The general scope of my research investigates how language and religion intertwine with nationalism among speakers of endangered languages. I am interested in the role ethnolinguistics played in the process of nation-building during the nineteenth and twentieth south-eastern Europe and Anatolia.

Currently, my research concentrates on the ethnolinguistic minorities’ experience in Greece, Turkey, and the Republic of Georgia.

About this website

The main purpose of lynnchenel.com is to essentially act as a research log (and plug) for my academic pursuits. Notwithstanding, I often come in contact with several minority languages which can have a limited number of resources available to researchers. As a result, I do post about translation notes, conversion charts, and other tidbits of linguistic minutia that are otherwise unavailable online. Through such posts, I claim no expertise, instead, I hope they can be of use to learners like myself.
